Trump Madness: U.S. Passport Power Hits Historic Low

By TeluguFunda / October 15, 2025

The Donald Trump administration appears to be taking a serious toll on America’s global standing this time reflected in the nation’s passport power. According to the latest Henley Passport Index, the U.S. passport has dropped to its lowest ranking in the index’s 20-year history, signaling a symbolic decline in the country’s international influence.

Once considered one of the strongest travel documents in the world, the U.S. passport has now slipped to 10th place, granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 182 destinations. The fall comes as Asian and European nations dominate the top ranks, reinforcing their growing global leverage.

Singapore, Japan, France, Germany, and Italy now share the top spot, with citizens of these countries enjoying access to 194 nations without a visa. The Henley Passport Index, compiled by Henley & Partners using International Air Transport Association (IATA) data, measures countries’ global mobility and visa freedom.

Experts say this downward shift for the U.S. underscores its waning diplomatic influence, coupled with increasingly tight visa and immigration policies. Meanwhile, countries such as South Korea and Spain have surged ahead, further displacing traditional powers from their once-dominant positions.

Though still in the top 10, the U.S. passport’s fall reflects more than just numbers it’s a broader sign of America’s diminishing soft power on the global stage. As diplomatic ties strain and travel restrictions rise, the “land of the free” appears to be losing its freedom of movement abroad.
