A tragic incident unfolded in Srikakulam district on Saturday when a stampede occurred at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Kashibugga. The mishap took place during the auspicious Karthika Ekadashi festival, which drew thousands of devotees from across the region.
According to preliminary reports, the situation turned chaotic as the crowd swelled far beyond the expected numbers. In the rush of devotees attempting to gain entry for darshan, several people were caught in the crush, resulting in injuries and panic at the temple premises.
Local authorities and temple management immediately launched rescue operations, controlling the situation and helping the injured receive medical care. Police officials have begun an inquiry to determine if crowd management lapses contributed to the tragedy.
