Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab is set to be the first major theatrical release of the Sankranthi season, followed closely by Mana Shankar Vara Prasad Garu (MSG), featuring Megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead. In a significant development, the Telangana High Court has granted permission for ticket price hikes and premiere shows for both films.
Earlier, the makers of these two big-budget films had approached the government seeking necessary approvals. The High Court has now clarified that the earlier single-bench verdict restricting ticket price hikes applies only to select films Pushpa 2, OG, Game Changer, and Akhanda 2. As a result, The Raja Saab and MSG are not bound by that ruling.
One of the key factors working in favor of these films is that their producers applied for permissions well in advance of release. This proactive approach allowed them ample time to address legal and administrative hurdles, ensuring a smoother path to release.
With two star-driven films opening the box office during the festive season, trade circles are optimistic about a grand start to the year, promising a cinematic treat for family audiences and fans alike.
It is worth noting that last year, a single-bench judge issued a strict order opposing movie ticket price hikes in the interest of the public. The court had suspended the Government Orders issued by the Telangana government for Akhanda 2 and strongly criticized the state for repeatedly overlooking judicial directions.
However, with the current clarification from the High Court, The Raja Saab and MSG have received the green signal. That said, it remains to be seen how audiences will react to increased ticket prices, especially with multiple films adopting this strategy during the same festive window.
