Sreeleela Bags Lead Role in Karan Johar’s Dostana 2 Reboot for OTT Release

As per reports, rising actress Sreeleela has joined Karan Johar’s Originally, Dharma Productions cast Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Lakshya in Dostana 2. However, the team shelved the film after only a few weeks of shooting due to unresolved differences. Now, the studio has restarted the film with Vikrant Massey and Lakshya playing two gay protagonists. Sreeleela has stepped in as the new female lead, taking over the role initially planned for Janhvi.l version in 2019, Dharma Productions has now revived the project with an entirely new team. This time, the makers have decided to skip theatres and release the film directly on Amazon Prime Video.

The makers have also brought in Advait Chandan—known for Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha—as the new director. He replaces Collin D’Cunha, who left the project due to his work on Call Me Bae Season 2. Advait’s addition brings further freshness to the project’s creative direction.

Dharma aims to begin filming in November 2025, depending on Vikrant Massey’s availability. He is currently committed to two other big films: a biopic on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Don 3. While Vikrant hasn’t signed the final paperwork yet, sources confirm that negotiations are in advanced stages.
