Sonu Sood, the actor known for his philanthropic work and upcoming film Fateh, recently made a bold statement about the absence of Laapataa Ladies from the official Oscars shortlist. During a press conference in Delhi, where he was promoting his song “Hitman” with Honey Singh, Sonu expressed his thoughts on the matter.
The Oscars 2024 race had many films vying for a place, and Laapataa Ladies was one of the entries chosen by the Film Federation of India as India’s official submission. However, despite much anticipation, the film was not included in the Academy’s official shortlist. This left many disappointed, especially after the film’s selection from a list of 29 entries, which also included Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light and Aattam, a National Award-winning film.
Sonu Sood’s Bold Take on the Oscars
Instead of focusing on the missed Oscar nomination, Sonu Sood chose to highlight the importance of the audience’s approval. In his statement, he emphasized that the real Oscar for any film is the love it receives from the viewers. According to him, awards may sit on shelves, but the lasting impact of a film is found in how it connects with people’s hearts. He stated, “The real Oscar is the audience who shower their love on the film. What matters is to make a place in the hearts of people; awards just remain confined to the shelves.”

Sonu’s Upcoming Projects and Continued Support for Others

The film, which will release on January 10, 2025, promises to be an action-packed thriller. He also spoke about his collaboration with Yo Yo Honey Singh for the song “Hitman,” which adds a musical flavor to his current projects.
In his professional journey, Sonu has earned praise not only for his acting but also for his unyielding support for others. Singer Honey Singh shared a touching story about how Sonu had once predicted his success and helped him navigate the Bollywood industry. Singh described Sonu as a visionary and a true brother who always helps others, particularly in times of difficulty. Singh praised Sonu’s heart of service, saying that if someone like him doesn’t succeed, it would be a loss for the world.
