‘Singham Again’ may feature multiple stars (Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Kareena Kapoor Khan) but its Trailer couldn’t have been more boring. At more than four minutes, it reveals enough for the Rohit Shetty-phobic audience to stay away.
For years, Rohit Shetty has tried to crack mass cinema but his characterizations and over-the-topness have rarely outclassed Telugu cinema. “Hindi cinema doesn’t understand mass cinema; they make mediocre films in its name. South learnt from the best like the Salim-Javed duo, Manmohan Desai, Hrishikesh Mukherjee et al in the 1970s and nurtured the genre further with so much love, effort and creativity,” opines an X user named Aditya Jakki.
“Pushpa Raj gonna eat all of them for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner,” an X user with the nickname Social Experiment commented after watching the Trailer.
The film’s liberal use of the Hindu religious imagery is interesting. “Has anyone called ‘Singham Again’ an ableist, upper-caste, cis-hetero-patriarchal-capitalist propaganda to promote Marathi-laced Hindutva ahead of the Maharashtra assembly election yet? (sic),” wondered Nirmalya Dutta in a sarcastic tone.
