Director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has always been vocal about his admiration for the late legendary actress, Sridevi. In a recent interview, RGV once again shared his thoughts on Sridevi but also offered a surprising opinion on her daughter, actress Janhvi Kapoor. He stated bluntly, “I don’t see Sridevi in Janhvi yet,” making his stance unmistakably clear.
RGV’s Admiration for Sridevi
Ram Gopal Varma has never hidden his adulation for Sridevi. Over the years, he has praised her acting range in films like Padaharella Vayasu, Vasanta Kokila, Kshana Kshanam, and Govindha Govindha. According to him, Sridevi’s performances were so impactful that he often forgot he was a filmmaker and viewed her work as a mesmerized audience. He emphasized that her talent left a lasting impression, which grew stronger over time.
Dismissing Comparisons Between Sridevi and Janhvi
In contrast, when asked about Janhvi Kapoor, RGV dismissed any comparisons. While Janhvi’s Devara co-star, Jr NTR, once remarked that Janhvi resembled her mother during a photoshoot, RGV disagreed. He attributed such comments to a “Sridevi hangover,” where fans and audiences might still view Janhvi through the lens of her mother’s legacy. He clarified that his comments were not meant to offend Janhvi but reflected his personal perspective.
No Intent to Work with Janhvi
When asked about collaborating with Janhvi Kapoor, RGV gave a clear response. “I liked the mother, not the daughter,” he said, emphasizing that he has no plans to work with her. He explained that throughout his career, he hasn’t felt a creative connection with several prominent actors, and this is no different. His statement, though blunt, carried no malicious intent.
Current Projects
On the professional front, RGV is set to return with a film starring Manoj Bajpayee, his Satya collaborator. Meanwhile, Janhvi Kapoor continues to shine in Bollywood with upcoming films like Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Param Sundari.
