This crucial democratic exercise commenced with the first phase of polling underway for 102 seats spread across 21 states. In addition to this, voting is also in progress in assembly constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Since the crack of dawn, voters have been flocking to polling centers in large numbers to exercise their fundamental right to vote. Among those who have already cast their votes are several political heavyweights and prominent figures. Notable leaders such as Stalin, the former governor of Tamil Nadu Tamilisai, Panneerselvam from Selam, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram, and Shiva Ganga from various parts of the country have participated in the electoral process.
The participation of celebrities from the film industry has also been notable, with actors like Rajinikanth, Kushboo, Karthik, Ajith, and Shivakarthikeyan all exercising their franchise.
The polling process is scheduled to continue until 6 p.m. local time. However, in areas with historical problems or potential issues, polling is set to conclude an hour earlier, as per directives from election officials.
Past elections have seen their fair share of controversies and disputes, and this year is no exception. Presently, tension is palpable in Tamil Nadu’s tri-cornered contest, while in Madhya Pradesh, polling is underway for the Lok Sabha elections. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, after casting his vote, expressed confidence in the Congress party’s prospects in securing the Lok Sabha seat. Concurrently, voting is also ongoing in Chhindwara.
The enthusiasm among voters to exercise their democratic rights is evident from the long queues observed at polling booths. With a promising afternoon polling percentage, there are high expectations for a robust voter turnout by the end of the day.
As the nation engages in this democratic exercise, all eyes are on the polling process and the eventual outcome, which will shape the political landscape of the country for years to come.
