The Telangana Congress government is reeling under internal turbulence as a fierce conflict between two cabinet ministers has snowballed into a major political storm. What began as a dispute over temple tenders between Endowments Minister Konda Surekha and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has now escalated to involve Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy himself, following sensational allegations made by Konda’s daughter Konda Sushmita.
Tender Controversy Reaches the High Command
Serving as the in-charge minister for Warangal district, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy reportedly interfered in the Medaram temple development tenders, which fall under Konda Surekha’s ministry. According to Konda’s camp, Ponguleti allegedly tried to secure tenders worth ₹71 crore for his close associates.
Dissatisfied with this alleged interference, Minister Konda Surekha formally complained to CM Revanth Reddy and even wrote a letter to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, bringing the issue to the Congress high command’s attention.
Congress sources claim that the Chief Minister took the matter seriously, expressing anger that repeated internal disputes between ministers were damaging the government’s image. Reports suggest he has submitted a detailed report on the controversy to the party high command.
Midnight Drama at Konda Surekha’s Residence
The tensions escalated dramatically late Wednesday night when Warangal Task Force police arrived at Konda Surekha’s residence to arrest her former OSD (Officer on Special Duty) Sumanth. He was accused of threatening the management of Deccan Cements and demanding money.
The police action triggered high drama at midnight. When officers attempted to enter the house without providing proper reasons, Konda’s daughter Sushmita confronted and stopped them. Speaking to the media shortly after, she made sensational allegations, claiming a political conspiracy was being hatched against her family.
“My mother is being deliberately targeted. Is being loyal to CM Revanth Reddy our only mistake? Some Reddy ministers are conspiring against my mother, who represents the BC community,” she said defiantly.
Explosive Allegations and Missing OSD
In her statement, Sushmita directly named several leaders — including CM Revanth Reddy, Rohin Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Kadiyam Srihari, and Vem Narender Reddy — alleging their involvement in the case. She also raised doubts over the handling of the FIR, noting that even though Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy’s name was mentioned in the complaint, he later claimed he never filed it further deepening the mystery.
Adding to the chaos, reports emerged that Surekha allegedly drove away with her former OSD Sumanth in her car as police attempted to arrest him, heightening tensions outside her residence.
Crisis Escalates to CMO Level
What began as an administrative rift between two ministers has now transformed into a full-blown political crisis, drawing in the police and even the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). The Konda–Ponguleti clash has not only exposed the growing internal rifts within the Congress government but also threatened to destabilize its image just months after taking power.
As the controversy intensifies, all eyes are now on the Congress high command to see what disciplinary action or intervention will follow a decision that could have far-reaching implications for the party’s stability in Telangana.
