PM Modi’s Visit to Kurnool and Nandyal: A Potential Turning Point for Rayalaseema’s Growth

By TeluguFunda / October 14, 2025

Andhra Pradesh is abuzz with anticipation ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kurnool and Nandyal this Thursday. The visit is expected to bring renewed central focus and investment into the Rayalaseema region, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, tourism, and industrial development.

Naidu’s Vision: Transforming Srisailam into a Spiritual Powerhouse

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has set his sights on turning Srisailam into a world-class spiritual and tourism hub. The state government has prepared a ₹1,657 crore master plan that will be presented to the Prime Minister during his visit.

At the core of this ambitious plan is the creation of a grand temple corridor for the revered Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Goddess Bhramaramba Temple, inspired by successful redevelopment models in Varanasi and Ujjain.

The proposed developments include:

A new queue complex worth ₹90 crore

A Salu Mantapam from Gangadhara Mandapam to Nandi Mandapam at ₹65 crore

Development of a temple tank for ₹25 crore

Revamp of Kailasa Kshetram at ₹25 crore

A new Prasadam Potu (kitchen) at ₹13 crore

A Samuhika Abhisheka Mandapam at ₹10 crore

A bridge connecting the workshop and Rudra Park for ₹5 crore

Restoration of Siddaramappa Kolanu with ₹95 crore

Overcoming Land and Connectivity Challenges

A major hurdle in the Srisailam redevelopment plan is the presence of the Nallamala forest, which falls under central jurisdiction. The state government is expected to seek allocation of 5,362 acres of forest land for temple-related infrastructure and expansion.

Additionally, Andhra Pradesh is requesting the upgradation of the Atmakur–Dornala road — a crucial route through the forest into a national highway. This move would significantly improve accessibility for pilgrims from both Karnataka and Rayalaseema, who currently face logistical challenges reaching Srisailam.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has already sought approval for an elevated corridor from Amrabad to Domalapenta, prompting Andhra Pradesh to push for similar clearances to ensure balanced development across the Srisailam region.

Rayalaseema’s Economic Reawakening

Political and business leaders from Rayalaseema view Modi’s visit as a potential game-changer. They are optimistic that the Prime Minister may announce new initiatives in irrigation, industry, and tourism.

Industries Minister T.G. Bharath noted that the Prime Minister understands Kurnool’s historical and strategic significance, and that the state government aims to restore the region’s lost glory. Plans are also in motion to set up a five-star hotel in Srisailam and establish an industrial corridor between Anantapur and Kurnool.

Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari echoed this sentiment, stating that Modi’s visit would “redefine the development landscape of Rayalaseema.” She also highlighted that the GST 2.0 reforms have strengthened Andhra Pradesh’s fiscal capacity, helping the state attract larger investments.

All Eyes on Orvakal: The Big Announcements Await

The highlight of the visit will be Modi’s public meeting at Orvakal, where he is expected to unveil key development initiatives for Nandyal, Kurnool, and the wider Rayalaseema region.

With both spiritual revival and economic growth on the agenda, Prime Minister Modi’s visit could mark a historic moment for Andhra Pradesh one that positions Rayalaseema at the forefront of the state’s progress and prosperity.
