The Bandi Saroj Kumar’s feature film after viral one-man show Youtube hits, Nirbhandam (Part 1 & 2) and Mangalyam, is an impressive massy non-adult story of heroism and vengeance that definitely deserved more than 2 screens on its Day-One release.
Bandi Saroj Kumar, known as BSK Cult Garage from his Youtube channel produced and directed a series of movies with the themes such as rape and extra-marital affairs targeting the “modren” liberal feminism. This seems to have resonated with the audience, especially the unique delivery of cuss language that made its way into the viral reels. If you look a bit deeper into his strategy, we can understand his way of consumer acquisition. However, his way of consumer acquisition to bring Youtube audiences into theatres was succeeded heavily through his potential of filling a multiplex theatre, but not in acquiring more screens than just two.
BSK has been playing the so-called alpha role, the so-called accepted norms of a ‘hero’ on screen. Lankapalli’s so-called one and only raju (King), Lovaraju is also an alpha male minus the utter toxicity from his previous movies. But, we can see the thematic elements and mannerism from his previous movies popping up as monologues and punch dialogues, especially about the ‘aadishakti’ (the primal power, referring to women in general).
Lovaraju’s father was a timid child-like theatre actor who has written a three-part play to bring justice to 8-year Durga’s brutal murder, his first loving audience. Lovaraju is not timid like his father. He is the hero. He decides to bring justice to Durga by revealing the atrocities through the three-part play written by his father. Meanwhile, there is a love track with his sister-in-law, Bhavani, just to repeat the values around pre-marital sexual relations.
Parakramam is a decent and well-written movie that not only engages but also impresses with its heroic moments and punch dialogues.
