In a recent press conference, Mega Prince Varun Tej shed light on the inception of the ‘Operation Valentine’ project. The director, Shakti Pratap Singh, approached Varun Tej with the script in 2020, and the actor was immediately drawn to the story. Despite a previous attempt to collaborate with Sony Pictures, it didn’t materialize until ‘Operation Valentine.’ The film’s content, with its national appeal and war backdrop, aligned perfectly with the studio’s vision. The collaboration resulted in a meticulously planned movie with a substantial budget, shot in both Telugu and Hindi.
When asked about the challenge of working with a relatively new director on a war-themed project, Varun Tej praised Shakti Pratap Singh’s passion and belief in the story. The director’s previous short film had gone viral, even surprising Air Force officers with its authenticity. Singh’s commitment to research and his proficiency in VFX, coupled with his ability to extract stellar performances from the cast, made the collaboration a success.
The title ‘Operation Valentine’ holds a poignant significance as it pays tribute to the Pulwama terror attack that occurred on February 14, 2019. The film showcases the Indian Air Force’s retaliatory operation on the same date, symbolizing a return gift to the enemies who caused the tragedy. Varun Tej emphasized that ‘Valentine’ in the movie represents the collective love of every Indian for their country. The Air Force officers who previewed the film praised it as the best depiction of the Pulwama incident, creating an emotional connection for every Indian.
The actor shared his experience of portraying the character Rudra in an aerial war film, highlighting the challenges of expressing emotions while wearing an oxygen mask. Varun Tej commended the director for designing his character with inspiration from real air fighters, making the connection with the audience even more emotional.
