The Karnataka State Employment of Local Industries Factories Establishment Act Bill, 2024 has mandated 50 percent reservation for locals in management jobs and 75 percent in non-management categories in private firms. The Bill has triggered concern from industry bodies and investors. The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) on the evening of July 17th urged the Siddaramaiah government to scrap the Bill, as it would be detrimental to the growth of the services sector in Karnataka.
The Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh was quick to welcome investments in Vizag, sensing an opportunity. Nara Lokesh, a Minister, wrote on social media that he understands India Inc’s disappointment with the proposed Bill in Karnataka.
Taking to X, Lokesh promised the best for the industry if they choose to invest in Vizag. “We welcome you to expand or relocate your businesses to our IT, IT services, AI and data center cluster at Vizag. We will offer you best-in-class facilities, uninterrupted power, infrastructure and the most suitable skilled talent for your IT enterprise with no restrictions from the Government. Andhra Pradesh is ready to welcome you. Please get in touch,” he wrote.
