Naga Vamsi on Funky Reviews: “I Never Claimed I Made Sagara Sangamam”

Tollywood’s latest comedy entertainer Funky, starring Vishwak Sen and Kayadu Lohar, hit theatres today. Directed by KV Anudeep of Jathi Ratnalu fame, the film is produced by Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments.

The comedy drama has opened to negative-to-mixed reviews, with several critics pointing out the lack of narrative flow and describing the screenplay as a collection of random moments rather than a cohesive story.

Responding to the criticism during a media interaction, Naga Vamsi addressed the ongoing discussion, particularly on social media. He revealed that after the USA premieres, many viewers commented that the film lacked flow and appeared patchy in its storytelling.

“I had already mentioned before release that the film would feel like a series of random, fun moments. Now some people are behaving like scientists by pointing out the same things again,” he said, referring to the online reactions.

The producer further clarified that the team never positioned Funky as a classic or a technically perfect film. “I never said I made a wonderful film like Sagara Sangamam. We simply made a silly comedy in Anudeep’s signature style. I am aware that reviewers may not like it. We know the film doesn’t follow conventional grammar,” he explained.

Naga Vamsi also addressed comments about the film’s editing, stating that the seemingly patchy narrative was a deliberate creative choice. “Even regular audiences are saying the editing feels uneven. But that was intentional. We didn’t design the film with a smooth flow. If you come expecting pure entertainment, you will be entertained,” he added.

With this candid response, the team has made it clear that Funky was crafted as a light-hearted, unconventional comedy rather than a structured cinematic drama.
