After a very long time, we get to see Rao Ramesh’s comedic timing and one-liners. But, ruined by the rest of the cast’s misplacement of unnecessary and unconvincing love track.
What would happen if the unluckiest person whose dream government job is stuck in court for decades gets huge amounts of money just for nothing 2. That too multiple times. ‘Maruthi Nagar’ Subramanyam is the true aspirant of government jobs as he is waiting for our never ending Indian courts to lift the stay order on his job. He randomly receives money from the and spends away and gets trapped in debts. The humour is obviously coming from the tragedy of Subramanyam. And, not from the ‘Konidela Daggupati Allu’ Arjun. The whole track of Ala Vaikuntapuramlo inspired comedy track remained as a gag and drag.
The drag is much truer for the love track. It is neither romantic, nor funny. It is a plan drag in the name of romance and hero-ing as innocent and a saviour. Why do filmmakers still succumb to writing the ‘heros’ as saviours just for the sake of hero-ising the ‘hero’? There is nothing wrong with hero-ising. But, to do that in a comedy movie where there is no scope is a complete misplacement.
The major positives of the movie is the comedy timing and one-liners delivered by Rao Ramesh. They click instantly with us. The premise and the chaos of the story had good scope to craft more laughable moments if the rest of the cast would have also been equally funny instead of just acting as a tool to be used by Rao Ramesh to create funny moments. Annapurnamma can be said an exception in this arguement. But, she agian played that irritating-loving mother-in-law who taunts and flaunts her usual way of comedy style.
Maruthi Nagar Subramanyam is a fun movie to watch. Especially, the climax too that does the Sherlock-type revealing of series of events that brought sudden free-money to Subramanyam’s bank account. It is an entertaining movie to enjoy if you can dare to ignore the ignorable love track and just enjoy Rao Ramesh being Rao Ramesh.
