Superstar Mahesh Babu is currently enjoying a short vacation with his family, taking a much-needed break from the intense shooting schedules of his highly anticipated pan-world film Varanasi. Directed by visionary filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, the big-budget project is one of the most awaited Indian films in recent years.
After spending several months continuously filming for Varanasi, Mahesh decided to unwind with his wife Namrata and children Gautam and Sitara. The actor and his family were recently spotted at Hyderabad’s Shamshabad Airport, and videos of their departure have gone viral on social media. However, the destination of the family vacation has been kept under wraps for now.
According to industry sources, Mahesh Babu is expected to return to Hyderabad by July 1, 2026. He is likely to attend the prestigious Rao Bahadur event on July 2 before resuming work on the next shooting schedule of Varanasi. While the makers have not revealed how much of the film is still pending, Rajamouli is reportedly taking his trademark perfectionist approach to ensure every frame meets global standards.
The makers have already announced that Varanasi will hit theatres worldwide on April 7, 2027. With less than a year remaining for release, a significant amount of time is expected to be dedicated to visual effects and post-production work. Given Rajamouli’s reputation for delivering world-class cinematic experiences, the film’s VFX and graphics are likely to play a major role in its final presentation.
Earlier, celebrated writer Vijayendra Prasad hinted that the story of Varanasi unfolds across three different timelines. The film’s first glimpse also offered intriguing clues, further raising curiosity among fans. Blending adventure, mystery and time-spanning storytelling, the film promises a unique cinematic experience.
Produced by K.L. Narayana under the Durga Arts banner, Varanasi features Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Prakash Raj in key roles. Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani is scoring the music. With Mahesh Babu set to appear in a completely new avatar, expectations are sky-high for what could become one of the biggest box-office spectacles in Indian cinema.
