What was initially believed to be a tragic trekking accident at Maharashtra’s Lohagad Fort has now emerged as a shocking murder conspiracy. Pune Rural Police have arrested 20-year-old Siya Praveen Goyal and her alleged lover, 22-year-old Chetan Babulal Chaudhary, for the murder of Goyal’s fiancé, Ketan Vishal Agarwal.
Grand Wedding Plans Worth ₹17 Crore
Ketan Agarwal, 26, was the son of prominent Pimpri-Chinchwad real estate businessman Vishal Agarwal. Having recently returned to India after completing his postgraduate studies abroad, Ketan was preparing for a lavish wedding with Siya Goyal.
The couple got engaged in February and were scheduled to marry in November at a luxurious palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Sources revealed that the families had already spent nearly ₹17 crore on wedding arrangements, including booking a royal palace venue and arranging two private aircraft to transport guests.
Trek to Lohagad Fort Ends in Tragedy
According to investigators, on June 18, Siya persuaded Ketan to accompany her on a trek to Lohagad Fort near Lonavala to celebrate her upcoming birthday. Hours later, she informed authorities that Ketan had accidentally slipped from a cliff.
Rescue teams recovered Ketan’s body after an extensive three-hour operation. However, his family immediately suspected foul play, citing his experience as a skilled trekker who was familiar with the terrain.
CCTV Footage Exposes the Murder Plot
As police intensified their investigation, CCTV footage from routes leading to the fort revealed a suspicious hooded man following the couple. Despite the scorching summer heat, the individual had concealed his face with a heavy hoodie, raising suspicions among investigators.
The man was later identified as Chetan Chaudhary. Police tracked his movements through multiple CCTV cameras and discovered that he had intentionally left his own mobile phone at home to avoid location tracking.
Investigators also found that Chaudhary had been communicating with Siya through WhatsApp using another person’s mobile phone while coordinating their movements on the mountain.
Confession Reveals Chilling Conspiracy
Faced with CCTV evidence and digital tracking data, both Siya and Chaudhary reportedly confessed to planning Ketan’s murder.
According to police, Siya was unwilling to marry Ketan and was under pressure from her family to proceed with the marriage. She allegedly viewed him as an obstacle to her relationship with Chaudhary and began plotting the murder weeks before the incident.
Police Continue Investigation
The case has shocked Maharashtra and sparked widespread discussion about betrayal, family pressure, and premeditated crime. Pune Rural Police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details surrounding the conspiracy and the events leading to Ketan Agarwal’s death.
The tragic incident has transformed what was meant to be a grand wedding celebration into one of the most sensational murder cases in recent times.
