Kuberaa, the much-talked-about Telugu film starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, opened to a strong response over the weekend. In Andhra Pradesh, favorable ticket pricing helped the film succeed during the first three days. However, on Monday, the momentum slowed down. Many theatres continued selling tickets at hiked prices, which caused a significant drop in advance bookings.
Industry experts believe regular ticket prices on Monday would have increased the number of footfalls and strengthened the film’s momentum during weekdays.
Strong Opening Weekend for Kuberaa
Director Sekhar Kammula released Kuberaa on Friday and immediately impressed both critics and audiences. The film combines thrilling moments with a strong social message, which helped it earn solid word-of-mouth buzz. Many now call it a masterpiece in the socio-political genre. Over the weekend, the film grossed Rs 48.50 crore nett in India. Here’s how the earnings break down:
Friday: Rs 14.75 crore
Saturday: Rs 16.5 crore
Sunday: Rs 17.25 crore
With this, Dhanush scored his biggest Telugu opening, even surpassing his Tamil film Raayan, which opened with Rs 23 crore gross.
Positive Buzz and Star Praise Drive the Film Forward
The film earned strong praise from major stars. At a blockbuster event in Hyderabad, Chiranjeevi praised Sekhar Kammula’s direction and called the film a “gem.” He said the producers deserve huge profits and applauded Nagarjuna for consistently picking bold roles. Nagarjuna, in turn, said Kuberaa reignited his passion for acting and motivated him to work for another 40 years.
Both Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna said Dhanush’s performance deserves a National Award. Nagarjuna also noted that no one else could have done justice to the role the way Dhanush did.
Overseas Success and What’s Ahead
Kuberaa continues to perform well overseas. In the United States, the film nears a 2 million dollars gross, which reflects its wide appeal.
As the week progresses, the film’s performance in AP and Telangana will depend on whether theatres adjust ticket prices back to regular levels. If pricing returns to normal, Kuberaa could gain new momentum and boost midweek collections, possibly setting fresh records for Dhanush in Telugu cinema.
The next few days matter a lot. If Kuberaa maintains its pace, it can even beat the lifetime India total of Raayan (Rs 94.79 crore) and become Dhanush’s biggest box office hit ever.
