The 2026 Kerala Assembly election counting has begun to paint a clear picture, with the Congress-led UDF emerging as the early frontrunner. After the initial rounds of counting, the UDF surged ahead in around 100 out of the 140 Assembly constituencies, establishing a significant lead over the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF, which was ahead in only 40 seats. Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA managed to lead in just one constituency.Despite the broader trend favoring the UDF, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan made a strong comeback in the Dharmadam constituency. After trailing in the early rounds, he regained the lead by the end of the seventh round of counting, securing a margin of 1,536 votes. The Dharmadam contest initially appeared tightly contested, with UDF candidate V P Abdul Rasheed taking the lead from the second round onwards. However, Vijayan’s late surge has turned the tables, highlighting the dynamic nature of the counting process. As counting progresses, all eyes remain on whether the UDF can maintain its substantial lead or if the LDF can stage a comeback in the later rounds.
