“For the last two years, my full concentration has been on ‘Kalyan Amusement Park’ which is being ambitiously built in Chennai. It will start soon. We are looking forward to do a film with Balakrishna. Whenever he wants to make a film, we are ready to do it,” said famous producer C Kalyan. He spoke to reporters on the occasion of his birthday on Saturday (December 9).
What are the special features of this birthday sir?
My career started as an assistant director. We have done about 83 films very successfully. We are looking forward to do a film with Balakrishna next. Whenever he wants to make a film, then we are ready to do it. Our desire is to do a film with Balakrishna. He is a protagonist who respects the producer as a producer. That’s why we love Balakrishna.
For the last two years, my full concentration has been on ‘Kalyan Amusement Park’ which is being ambitiously built in Chennai. We are busy making arrangements to launch it on Tamil New Year’s Day. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is also excited to start this project soon. Because coming up of such a project in the city brings a very good name to the government. Good support is available from the government, officials and people there. This is an everlasting project. I consider it a blessing from God to have the opportunity to build such a wonderful project. Kalyan Amusement Park is amazing. Lots of fun. For the first time in India, we are setting up a sky theater in it. There is a belief that after the opening of Kalyan Amusement Park, we will earn good revenues. The income will be spent on the production of films. We will keep making movies forever.
Will you meet the new Chief Minister of Telangana Revanth Reddy on behalf of the industry? About the contribution of the AP government to the industry?
We will definitely go and meet. Chiranjeevi also responded very favorably when he met Jagan. The movie will not give up on them. I will give places to everyone. They openly said that infrastructure should not be developed. If there is an opportunity to build a project like Kalyan Amusement Park in AP, I will definitely do it.
I made a proposal to organize an international film festival in Vizag. Hyderabad International Film Festival is not happening. If you open it again, you will get a special recognition. I will request Revanth Reddy to hold it again. Also, I will request to bring Children’s Film Festival to Hyderabad.
You know all the crafts right? What is expected to increase the cost of production?
Not one. Nothing is out of control. After stopping the shooting for a few years, they noticed where the money was being wasted in big films, but then they came to the feeling that they would not be able to make films, so they continued as usual. A Hindi film can be completed in sixty days. There is no such system here.
They say OTT is the future right? Thinking of doing a web series with OTT collaboration?
I am always in a movie mood. Web series is also like serial. But they are making a better version of it. But I can’t do such tuned content. Digital rights will expire soon. I think heroes will also move more towards web series.
Business, collections, records aside, how do you see the diminishing number of awards ceremonies that should be given to an artist?
To be honest, I don’t think even the artist who has received the award feels that it is an honor for him. There are days when awards are given genuinely. An award ceremony is where the entire industry comes together as a family. It should be our festival. That used to happen. Now it seems that except for those who got the award, everyone else is sitting at home. In such a situation, the question arises as to why awards are celebrated.
About your new project?
We hope to start the film with Balakrishna in 2024. We are also preparing to make two more short films.
