Tollywood’s fascination with mythological subjects continues to grow, and the race to bring Lord Kumara Swamy to the big screen has become increasingly crowded. Some time ago, director Trivikram Srinivas announced a grand mythological project based on the deity, tentatively titled God of War. Icon Star Allu Arjun was initially signed on to play the lead, but for undisclosed reasons, the project later shifted to Jr. NTR. Recent reports, however, suggest that the film may have once again returned to Allu Arjun, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the venture.
Amid this buzz, filmmaker Kishore Tirumala added a new dimension to the competition by announcing his own film on Kumara Swamy, titled Gowri Tanaya. With multiple Tollywood projects now centered on the same deity, the genre is clearly gaining momentum.
The excitement doesn’t stop there. Kollywood has also joined the race, with noted Tamil actor Jiiva revealing that he is working on a film celebrating the legacy of Lord Murugan. Speaking about the project, Jiiva said he has long dreamed of bringing the stories, pride, and heritage of Lord Murugan to the screen. He confirmed that work on the film is already underway and promised an official announcement soon, expressing confidence that it would mark a historic moment in Tamil cinema.
With parallel projects taking shape across industries, mythological cinema appears set for a major resurgence in South Indian films.
