The CBI SIT investigation into the Tirumala Laddu Prasadam Ghee Scam is progressing rapidly. After filing the first chargesheet in May, the SIT officials are reportedly preparing to submit a second one by the end of this month, accelerating the pace of the probe.
In this context, former TTD Executive Officer (EO) A.V. Dharma Reddy has been under interrogation for the past two days. While it remains unclear what specific questions were posed to him or how he responded, social media platforms aligned with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have been actively circulating various claims about the questioning.
Dharma Reddy, who took charge as Additional EO of TTD after the YSRCP government came to power in 2019 and was later promoted to full-time EO in October 2020, is facing allegations that the ghee supply contract was awarded to Bhole Baba Dairy during his tenure. The controversy revolves around allegations that adulterated ghee was used in the making of Tirumala laddus.
During Tuesday’s session, Dharma Reddy reportedly faced nearly eight hours of questioning. According to certain media reports mostly TDP-friendly outlets he allegedly stated that he could not stop the supply of adulterated ghee due to pressure from the high command. However, YSRCP leaders have expressed skepticism about these claims, questioning the authenticity of such reports and suggesting that the media might be fabricating stories to create political drama.
As this debate intensified, TDP social media circles launched a fresh narrative on Wednesday, claiming that Dharma Reddy had turned approver in the case. The timing of this campaign, coinciding with his ongoing SIT interrogation, has raised eyebrows and led to speculation about political motives behind it.
YSRCP supporters believe this might be a calculated mind game by the TDP to exert indirect pressure on former TTD chairman Y.V. Subba Reddy, who is expected to be questioned next by the SIT. The party’s leaders argue that the “approver” rumours are part of a broader strategy to influence the investigation and public perception.
With the SIT tightening its probe and political accusations flying thick and fast, the Tirumala ghee scam is shaping up to be not just a legal battle, but a high-stakes political face-off between the ruling YSRCP and the opposition TDP.
