Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay celebrated his 52nd birthday today, marking his first birthday since assuming office as the state’s Chief Minister.
Wishes poured in from across the political spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings and wished Vijay a long and healthy life. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi conveyed his support for efforts aimed at safeguarding Tamil interests and accelerating the state’s development. Former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also joined in wishing Vijay on the occasion.
The celebrations come just weeks after Vijay led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to a historic victory in the April 23 Assembly elections and took charge as Chief Minister. The flood of greetings reflected his rising stature and popularity across political and social circles.
With his political success, Vijay has joined the elite club of South Indian actors who became chief ministers, following the path laid by M.G. Ramachandran, N.T. Rama Rao, and J. Jayalalithaa.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround the release of Vijay’s final film, “Jana Nayagan”. The project has been caught in legal complications since January, and despite expectations that the issues would be resolved after Vijay assumed office, the makers are yet to announce a release date.
