It’s been 10 years since Team India Won an ICC Tournament. After the Champions trophy held in 2013 and team India winning under MS Dhoni’s capataincy, Team India is consistent with their performance all these years in between except winning an ICC tournament. And it all peaked when India went to Semi-final in 2019 Worldcup semi-final only to lose to the Kiwis.
Now in the year 2023, India faced the very same opponent in the very stage of the tournament, semifinal. The disastrous defeat is still fresh in the hearts and minds of the Indian Fans. And the only way to get rid of this haunting is to win against New Zealand and break the jinx.
Captain Rohit and his boys with Virat Kohli and Shami as the front warriors faced New Zealand on 15th November, 2023. But as soon as the match started Rohit gears shifted directly to the top gear sparing no one and laid a solid foundation. While Gill matching Rohit speed, seems like they were in a race against each other.
Rohit departed with 47 against his name and Gill retired due to heat cramps, but Kohli on the pitch gathered ones and two swiftly with here and there and making his 50th record making century as if no big deal and paying respect to the Legendary Sachin Tendulkar like ‘Sorry Paaji, for breaking your record’.
Iyer on the other end hitting short balls to huge straight sixes and made a century for himself.
India posting a grand 397 for 50 overs, India is done a good job but NZ is no less team and it made millions of fans cry last time.
NZ openers went out cheaply for the furious Shami but the story took a U-turn when Kane Williamson and Mitchell made a partnership of 150+ runs in the middle over upto the 32nd over. Indian fans only retained hope when the ball was passed to Shami and Shami as usual took 2 more wickets with Bumrah, Siraj and Kuldeep chipping with one scalp each.
The other 3 wickets were subsequently taken by Shami with total 7 wickets against to his name and bringing glory to team India and Peace to Team India fans.
