Aswini Dutt has not been immune to flops. After NTR’s ‘Brahmarshi Viswamitra’ in 1991 (a film he distributed), he scored a series of flops. But those were manageable. He made a comeback with SV Krishna Reddy’s ‘Subhalagnam’ in 1994.
In the late 2000s, he produced Jr NTR’s ‘Sakthi’ against the advice of an astrologer. The film, directed by Meher Ramesh, was a disaster. “Losing Rs 25 Cr on one film was no small thing,” he once said.
In his latest interview, Dutt said that the jolt that ‘Sakthi’ gave him was so huge that he thought of stopping doing movies altogether. “It was the biggest setback in my career,” he added.
Dutt has been successfully doing real estate business. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, his most expensive film, is a hit. Its sequel will go on the floors towards the end of this year.
