Nikhil Siddhartha’s latest film, Appudo Ippudo Eppudo, was released in theatres this Friday amid super-low buzz. As per early BookMyShow trends, the openings are going to be absolutely poor.
In a recent interview, director Sudheer Varma said that the OTT platform (that is, Amazon Prime) that owns the post-theatrical digital release rights insisted that they release the movie by the end of December. November 9th was chosen because not many dates are available later. November 14th already has three releases (Kanguva, Matka and Devaki Nandana Vasudeva). December will be packed because of the Pushpa 2 mania, followed by Christmas releases like Nithiin’s Robinhood.
OTT platforms are getting to decide release dates by virtue of their financial clout. Their payouts bail out projects and producers have no option but to obey them.
Appudo Ippudo Eppudo, co-starring Rukmini Vasanth, John Vijay, Ajay and Divyansha, never stood any chance anyways. The film’s content is outrageously poor.
