Nikhil Sidhartha’s long-overdue, Appudo Ippudo Yeppudo, has finally hit the screens with the least impact for a Nikhils’s movie due to the lack of near-zero promotions.
Nikhil plays the role of a racer with the name of RIshi. What does he want except a woman he loves and a racing vehicle he can drive? Rukmini Vasanth as Tara is just limited to the classic stereotypical woman on screen playing the role of loyal and passive lover to the hero NIkhil, who feels jealous upon the arrival of Tulasi (Divyansha Kaushik). Love track with Tulasi is a forced bit tried to squeeze into this wanna-be dark humoured rom-com crime thriller. You might see the best of genre blending movies, but Appudo Ippudo Eppudo tries to swallow more genres than it can chew. And, it resulted in a mess of everything impressing with nothing
On paper Appudo Ippudo Yeppudo is supposed to be a crime thriller. But, in reality, Sudheer Varma’s over reliance on twists to serve the genre of crime-thriller and artificially infusing the barely bearable romantic tracks makes the screenplay an haphazard mess. However, the attempt to flavour the movie with dark humour by making a caricature of Badri Narayana from John Vijay makes it an evidence of an honest attempt being wasted.
Appudo Ippudo Eppudo misses a few major logical issues. Logic-defying screenplay solely written for the sake of plot and twist doesn’t respect the intelligence of the audience. For example, how convincing is it that a police officer in the UK is stunned exactly looking directly at the camera placed at his eye level after the tales narrated by the hero at midnight in the middle of the road. This gives leeway for Rishi and Balaji alias Yaaji (Viva Harsha) escape from UK police by revving the vehicle heroically. There is another blunder where it is left unexplained how just having a ‘device’ can bring them Rs. 500 cr when the device is just an OTP/code generator. Lazy writing as such might take the plot forward, but such unintelligent writing also takes the audience for granted as nothing but passive receivers of junk.
The background score composed by Karthik fell flat whereas the EDM bits in the musical tracks are peppy and foot-tappy. Heroine Rukmini Vasanth, who got her fame and applause for her Sapta Sagara Daati, doesn’t have any scope for her to grow beyond what was mediocrely written for the character.
The issue is not all with the writer-director. The news reports indicate the financial difficulties faced by the SVCC banner during the production. All these culminated into a huge mess. The last portion of Nikhil’s appearance out of silhouette feels like the shot has been taken during the break period of Nikhil’s next Swayambhu. A bit more clever writing might have definitely saved Appudo Ippudo Eppudo from the colossal mess that it is in right now.
Appudo Ippudo Eppudo might be playing at your nearest theatres.
