The Ambani family’s association with Andhra Pradesh has been growing across sectors, and Anant Ambani’s presence at the high-profile Rayalaseema horticulture event has added another interesting chapter to that relationship.
Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, attended the Global Horticulture Hub programme in Madanapalle on Friday. The event was attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and IT Minister Nara Lokesh. The ₹1 lakh-crore horticulture initiative is aimed at transforming agriculture, food processing, irrigation and exports across Rayalaseema and other parts of the state.
However, Anant Ambani emerged as one of the major talking points of the event. In his speech, he praised Chandrababu Naidu’s approach towards bringing technology into agriculture and spoke about the potential for technology-driven farming in Andhra Pradesh.
Anant also made a personal appeal that caught everyone’s attention. He requested Chandrababu Naidu to consider him a “son of Andhra” and said he was ready to contribute to the development of the state.
Nara Lokesh also welcomed Anant’s association with Andhra Pradesh and spoke about working together on agricultural development and technology. Chandrababu Naidu, meanwhile, referred to Anant Ambani affectionately as a “Muddu Bidda” of Andhra Pradesh, adding a personal touch to the interaction.
The event also marked the foundation of the Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle, with Reliance playing a role in the initiative. The proposed institution is intended to focus on technology-based agriculture, precision farming, digital agriculture, research, training and support for agricultural start-ups.
With the Global Horticulture Hub itself involving a proposed ₹1 lakh-crore investment, including government funding and expected private investment, the involvement of major private-sector players is an important part of the larger plan. The project is planned across 10 districts through 201 clusters and is expected to benefit farmers through better irrigation, production, processing, logistics and export infrastructure.
While the horticulture project was the main agenda of the day, Anant Ambani’s remarks and the warm reception from Andhra Pradesh’s top leadership became one of the biggest talking points from the Madanapalle event.
