Akshaye Khanna Goes Dark as Sukracharya in Mahakali Glimpse

The much-awaited glimpse of Mahakali, the first female superhero film from the Prashanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), is finally out, offering a grand look at the film’s mythological world. Directed by Puja Aparna Kolluri, the film marks her directorial debut and also introduces Bhoomi Shetty as the lead in a powerful superhero avatar.

The glimpse immediately grabs attention with Akshaye Khanna as Sukracharya, who appears to be the primary antagonist. His character seeks justice for the Asuras and attempts to unite them against the gods and humanity. Standing in his way is Mahakaali, who rises as a powerful force against evil to restore balance and peace.

One of the biggest highlights of the glimpse is its final sequence, which features a fierce Mahakaali with multiple arms while feeding a baby. The striking imagery adds a unique mythological touch and leaves viewers curious about the story and the character’s larger purpose.

The film’s visual effects and massive scale are another major attraction. Akshaye Khanna’s intense look and commanding screen presence further elevate the glimpse, while Smaran Sai’s powerful background score adds to the epic atmosphere.

Produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under RKD Studios, Mahakali features an ensemble cast including Khushbu Sundar, Shriya Reddy, Samuthirakani, Rakesh Bedi, Rajat Kapoor, Nassar, Murali Sharma and Prudhviraj in key roles. Netflix has also secured the film’s OTT rights ahead of its theatrical release.

Mahakali is scheduled to hit theatres on January 8, 2027, releasing in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The film will also arrive in premium formats such as IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema, ICE, D-BOX, 4DX and ScreenX, underlining the makers’ ambition to deliver a massive cinematic experience.
