Rajamouli Rejects AI Voices for Varanasi? 1,500 Voice Artists in the Race

SS Rajamouli’s highly ambitious Varanasi continues to generate massive buzz, with the film now moving into the final stages of production. The team is reportedly aiming to complete the shoot by October, while work on the background score and dubbing is also progressing simultaneously.

Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani, a regular collaborator of Rajamouli, recently confirmed that he will begin work on the film’s background score from September. At the same time, the makers are reportedly focusing on the dubbing process across multiple Indian and international languages.

Interestingly, at a time when artificial intelligence-generated voices are becoming increasingly common in the entertainment industry, Rajamouli is said to be choosing real voice artists instead of AI-generated voices for Varanasi.

According to reports, the film is being planned for a massive worldwide release across nearly 120 countries. With the makers looking to present the characters naturally in different languages, the dubbing team is reportedly expected to evaluate the work of more than 1,500 voice artists before finalising the voices for the various versions.

The decision highlights the attention to detail being given to Varanasi, particularly as the film is being positioned as a major international release. The makers appear determined to ensure that the characters retain their emotional impact and authenticity across different languages.

Varanasi stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. The film marks Rajamouli’s first collaboration with Mahesh Babu and has already created enormous expectations among audiences.

The project is described as an action-adventure featuring fantasy and time-travel elements, with the Ramayana playing a significant role in the story. With its ambitious scale, international release plans and Rajamouli’s vision, Varanasi is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Indian films.

The film is currently scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
