The film “Prajakavi Kaloji,” produced by Ms. Vijayalakshmi Jaini under the banner of Jaini Creations, has garnered acclaim by being selected as the National Best Film at the Kollywood International Film Festival. Director Dr. Prabhakar Jaini, an accomplished novelist, expressed his joy at this recognition after a decade-long anticipation, stating that his dream has finally materialized.
Having directed four films with a commitment to creating socially relevant and compelling content, namely:
1. “Mother! Kudos to you!!” – Addressing artificial insemination.
2. “A prince who fights in the streets of love” – Focused on Ramappa temple care.
3. “Campus Ampasiah” – Adapted from the Ampasaiah Novel.
4. “Prajakavi Kaloji” – The acclaimed film in question.
Dr. Prabhakar Jaini shed light on the challenges faced in the Telugu cinema industry, emphasizing the difficulty of marketing good and small films compared to less substantial productions. He highlighted the lack of support from both promoters and governmental bodies, lamenting the absence of assistance for films like “Kaloji,” which received no subsidy, entertainment tax concession, or an audience with government officials.
Addressing the financial constraints faced after completing “Prajakavi Kaloji,” Dr. Jaini discussed the hurdles in advertising, securing theaters, and overall production costs. He pointed out the industry’s inclination towards commercial elements like fights and item songs, which were not congruent with the film’s theme centered around Kaloji. Despite the challenges, the film’s lead actor received the National Best Actor Award.
Dr. Jaini expressed disappointment with the current state of Telugu cinema awards, stating that small, high-quality films struggle to secure recognition, even with knowledgeable juries. He urged for a shift in audience preference toward meaningful cinema and advocated for government incentives for good films, similar to those in other languages.
In conclusion, the recognition of “Prajakavi Kaloji” at the Kollywood International Film Festival was celebrated as a source of inspiration, encouraging the creation of more impactful and socially relevant short films. Dr. Jaini appealed to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Cinematography Minister Komati Reddy Venkata Reddy to watch the movie, acknowledging the filmmakers’ efforts and providing crucial support to the Telangana cinema industry.
