In a major boost to public transport, the Centre allocated 750 electric buses to Andhra Pradesh under the Prime Minister-eBus Sewa scheme. Rajeev Jain, Media Advisor to the Government of India, shared this update during a press interaction in Vijayawada. These buses will operate across 11 selected cities in the state, marking a big step towards building a cleaner, greener, and modern transport system.
First Phase Rollout of 750 Electric Buses Begins
The Centre launched the first phase of a national-level plan to roll out 10,000 electric buses across India. As part of this, it finalized Pune-based Pinnacle Mobility Solutions to supply and operate 750 fully air-conditioned electric buses in Andhra Pradesh.
The fleet includes 129 buses of 9-meter length and 621 buses of 12-meter length. APSRTC will run the buses under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, where it pays Rs 62.17 per kilometre for the 9-meter buses and Rs 72.55 per kilometre for the 12-meter ones.
APSRTC Prepares Charging Stations in 12 Depots
To support electric bus operations, APSRTC began installing charging stations at 12 depots across the 11 cities. The State Level Steering Committee (SLSC) submitted detailed infrastructure and power supply plans to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). APSRTC is actively working on building the required infrastructure at these depots.
Centre Pushes Urban Development in Andhra Pradesh
The Centre is also driving progress in other major urban development projects in Andhra Pradesh. The Vijayawada Metro Rail project, which spans 38 km, and the Visakhapatnam Metro initiative are both moving ahead steadily. Under the Smart Cities Mission, officials have already completed over 84% of projects worth Rs 5,701 crore in Amaravati, Kakinada, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam.
Andhra Pradesh Excels in Central Government Schemes
Andhra Pradesh has also outperformed many states in implementing several central schemes. Under the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi), the state achieved 103% of its loan disbursement target. Authorities have approved more than 350,000 housing loans under the PM Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U). Additionally, under AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0, the Centre released Rs 5,890 crore, and the state secured approval for projects worth Rs 6,200 crore.
By rolling out 750 electric buses and accelerating infrastructure development, the Centre aims to transform public transport in Andhra Pradesh while boosting eco-friendly mobility and urban growth.
