On Monday, YSRCP MLAs, who protested in the Assembly against the alleged anarchy in Andhra Pradesh, later staged a walkout.
In a statement, the Opposition party said, “In the last one and a half months, killings and atrocities in the State have reached alarming levels. We raised slogans in the Assembly to protect democracy.”
Earlier in the day, Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the police of toeing the ruling party line. “Instead of safeguarding democracy, you are at the beck and call of the government,” he said moments after the police prevented the legislators of YSRCP from holding placards.
In a related development, Congress leader YS Sharmila faulted the YSRCP for staging a walkout from the Assembly. “All that you have got are 11 MLAs. Instead of participating in debates, you walked out today. Is any Bill that the government passes necessarily anti-people?” she asked.
