Why Did Konda Surekha Apologise Only to Nagarjuna?

By TeluguFunda / November 12, 2025

Minister Konda Surekha has finally issued an apology to actor Akkineni Nagarjuna for the controversial remarks she made earlier. The apology came late at night through a carefully worded tweet one that seemed more legally crafted than emotionally driven.

She wrote:

“I would wish to clarify that the statement I had made in relation to @iamnagarjuna Garu was not intended to hurt Nagarjuna Garu or his family members. I had no intention of hurting or defaming Akkineni Nagarjuna Garu or his family members. I regret any unintended impression given in my statements in relation to them and withdraw the same.”

At first glance, it appears to be a simple apology. But a closer look raises one big question — why only to Nagarjuna?

The Controversy That Sparked It All

In October 2024, Surekha made sensational comments while criticizing BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao. During her remarks, she also mentioned Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Akkineni Nagarjuna, implying that their personal matters were somehow connected to political developments.

The comments quickly went viral and drew sharp criticism, as they were seen as insensitive and speculative — especially given the stature of the Akkineni family.

Nagarjuna didn’t take the remarks lightly. He filed a defamation case against Surekha, seeking ₹100 crore in damages for tarnishing his family’s reputation. KTR, too, filed a separate defamation case over the political aspect of her comments.

As the court proceedings advanced, members of the Akkineni family appeared and gave their statements. With the verdict expected soon, Surekha’s sudden apology now appears strategically timed — possibly aimed at reducing legal pressure or paving the way for an out-of-court settlement.

The Missing Name Samantha Ruth Prabhu

While the apology addressed Nagarjuna and his family, it completely omitted Samantha Ruth Prabhu — another person whose name Surekha had publicly invoked in 2024.

This silence did not go unnoticed. Many questioned why Samantha, who was also dragged into the controversy, did not receive even a mention.

Samantha, for her part, chose dignity over confrontation. She didn’t respond publicly or take legal action. But that doesn’t mean she wasn’t wronged. Being drawn into a political dispute over deeply personal matters is never easy, especially for a celebrity already subjected to immense public scrutiny.

If Surekha truly intended to express remorse, shouldn’t her apology have extended to Samantha as well?

The timing and tone of Surekha’s apology suggest it might have been influenced more by legal advice than by personal conscience. Her message is narrowly tailored apologizing only to those who took her to court. It reads less like a heartfelt expression of regret and more like a formal clarification meant to satisfy legal requirements.

Had there been no court case, would this apology ever have been made? That’s the question many are asking.

What True Accountability Means

Public figures carry the responsibility of using their words wisely. When they cross the line, accountability isn’t just about legal compliance it’s about moral responsibility.

Surekha’s apology could have been an opportunity to show genuine humility — to admit her mistake and express regret to everyone affected, including Samantha Ruth Prabhu. A sincere, all-inclusive apology would have brought true closure and earned her public respect.

Instead, her selective statement feels incomplete more like a move of compulsion than conscience.

If she truly regrets her 2024 remarks, the next step is clear: extend the same apology to Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Only then can her words be seen as a reflection of genuine remorse, not legal strategy.
