The tragic industrial accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, which claimed the lives of eight workers, has prompted swift action from both the Central and State governments. Authorities have launched a high-level inquiry to determine the cause of the deadly mishap and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu visited the steel plant and met the families of the victims. Expressing deep condolences, Kumaraswamy announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹25 lakh to the families of each deceased worker and ₹10 lakh compensation for those injured in the accident.
In addition to the financial assistance, the government has assured that affected families can continue to reside in steel plant quarters. The children of the deceased workers will receive free education, while one member from each affected family will be offered permanent employment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced support through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), providing ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased worker and ₹50,000 to those injured.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation with senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and Visakhapatnam District Collector. He directed authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and implement stringent safety measures to ensure that such tragedies do not recur.
The incident has raised serious concerns over industrial safety standards, with both state and central governments promising comprehensive measures to safeguard workers in the future.
