Vismaya Mohanlal’s Acting Debut with Thudakkam Promises a Fresh Beginning in Malayalam Cinema

Vismaya Mohanlal, the daughter of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, is officially stepping into the world of cinema with her acting debut in Thudakkam. Director Jude Anthany Joseph, known for delivering critically acclaimed movies like Ohm Shanthi Oshaana and 2018, India’s official entry to the Oscars in 2023, will helm the project. Antony Perumbavoor will produce the film under his banner, Aashirvad Cinemas.

Mohanlal announced the film on his social media account, where he shared a heartfelt message for his daughter. He wrote, “Dear Mayakutty, may your ‘Thudakkam’ be just the first step in a lifelong love affair with cinema.” Aashirvad Cinemas quickly followed with a warm welcome, introducing Vismaya to the silver screen.

Adding to the excitement, Vismaya’s brother Pranav Mohanlal, already a well-known actor in Malayalam films, proudly supported her. He posted the film’s poster on Instagram and wrote, “My sister is taking her first step into the world of cinema. Incredibly proud and excited for her.”

Director Jude Anthany Joseph also penned an emotional note. He shared that when Mohanlal and his wife asked him to direct Vismaya’s debut, he immediately felt a strong sense of responsibility. He described Thudakkam as a small and heartfelt project and expressed his hope that it would start a long-lasting collaboration with producer Antony Perumbavoor.

Before entering films, Vismaya gained recognition as a writer and poet. In 2021, she released her poetry and art book Grains of Stardust through Penguin Random House India. She drew inspiration for the poems and illustrations from her everyday life and creative thoughts.

In an interview, Vismaya shared that she wrote many poems while waiting for the subway or listening to music. She got the idea to turn them into a book after her brother encouraged her to revisit her old sketchbooks.
