Kollywood star Suriya continues to face a tough phase in his career, and the ambitious film Vaadivaasal now seems to join the growing list of projects he shelved. Director Vetrimaaran planned the film based on C.S.
Chellappa’s novel, aiming to showcase the traditional Tamil bull-taming sport Jallikattu, with Suriya playing a dual role as father and son. But the latest buzz from the Tamil film industry suggests that the makers dropped the film due to slow scripting and scheduling hurdles.
Vaadivaasal’s Future Looks Dim
The makers announced Vaadivaasal with much excitement and roped in top talents like music director GV Prakash Kumar and producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu. The project created high expectations, especially since it brought Suriya and Vetrimaaran together for the first time.
However, the team made no visible progress for almost three years. Industry sources now say that Vetrimaaran couldn’t lock a final bound script, and Suriya decided to step away from the project.
Adding more heat to the rumors, social media buzz claims that Vetrimaaran now plans to work with Silambarasan TR (Simbu) for the same script or a different film. These reports indicate that the makers might have permanently shelved Vaadivaasal with Suriya. Although neither Suriya nor Vetrimaaran released an official update, their silence only fuels more speculation.
Suriya Shelved More Projects in Recent Times
Suriya didn’t just walk away from Vaadivaasal. After Kanguva and Retro flopped at the box office, he restructured several of his upcoming plans. He dropped his ambitious Bollywood trilogy based on Karna from Mahabharata due to budget constraints. He also opted out of Parasakthi, a Sudha Kongara project that now stars Siva Karthikeyan, and another superhero film with Lokesh Kanagaraj, which might now feature Aamir Khan.
Suriya Focuses on Suriya 46
Despite these setbacks, Suriya continues to push forward. He is currently filming Suriya 46, directed by Venky Atluri. Recently, he visited the Palani Murugan Temple with the director and producer Naga Vamsi to seek blessings before the shoot.
He debuted a clean-shaven, stylish look, moving away from the rugged appearance he had in earlier films. This transformation suggests that Suriya 46 will feature him in a fresh, possibly urban character.
No Official Statement Yet on Vaadivaasal
So far, neither Suriya nor Vetrimaaran clarified the actual status of Vaadivaasal. The film’s future remains unclear, with no confirmation about whether they shelved it permanently or only paused it for now. Fans continue to hope for a revival, but current signs strongly suggest that Suriya has walked away from another high-profile project.
