Upasana Konidela, the Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals and wife of actor Ram Charan, leads a powerful mission to bring healthcare and dignity to India’s elderly. Through her foundation, Billion Hearts Beating, she supports over 150 old age homes across the country. Recently, she has added fresh energy to the initiative as she plans to expand support to more than 200 homes, helping thousands of senior citizens live with respect, care, and comfort.
Improving Elderly Healthcare Through Project Aushad
At the core of Upasana’s mission, Project Aushad provides free monthly medicines, medical check-ups, and dry ration kits to residents in over 150 senior care homes. Her team designs a customized medical plan for each elderly person, helping them manage chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and arthritis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her team delivered emergency ration kits to prevent malnutrition among seniors.
Bringing Joy Through Pilgrimages and Social Bonding
Upasana goes beyond physical healthcare and focuses on emotional well-being too. She arranges pilgrimages to spiritual places like the Golden Temple in Amritsar and organizes social gatherings for the elderly. These meaningful experiences reduce loneliness and help seniors relive memories while creating new ones with others around them.
Emergency Healthcare and Life-Saving Training
Through Project Suraksha, Upasana’s foundation conducts free health camps in crowded public spaces, temples, and disaster-hit areas. She also runs Project Prashikshan, where her team trains police, students, and volunteers in Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR. These trained individuals now know how to respond quickly and save lives before medical professionals arrive.
Recognition and Future Vision
Upasana earned the National CSR Times Award for her remarkable work through Project Aushad. She now actively works to extend her mission to over 200 old age homes, with a goal to offer even more elders the care and dignity they deserve. Her efforts prove that true service to the elderly requires time, effort, and consistent care, not just money.
Upasana Konidela truly represents modern philanthropy in action. Her mission shows that every elderly person deserves respect, health, and emotional support. With compassion and commitment, she continues building a kinder and more respectful India, one elderly heart at a time.
