The recent releases from Tamil industry, Vaazhai and Kottukaali are making waves of appreciation and box office collections. But, they weren’t released in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Vaazhai, directed by Mari Selvaraj who is known for making social dramas about oppressed class like Karnan, Pariyarum Perumal and Maamannan and Ps Vinothraj, who debuted with Pebbles at International Film Festival Rotterdam are receiving the praises from Cinephiles. However, their release in major Telugu cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada is not yet done.
Vaazhai stars Dhivya Dhuraisamy, Kalaiyarasan, Priyanka Nair and music is composed by long-standing collaborator of Mari Selvaraj, Santhosh Narayanan. Vaazhai is about the life of a 12-year old and the challenges he had to face in the simple plantation of a tree Vaazhai.
The Hindu’s Bhuvanesh Chandar called Vaazhai ‘a profound masterpiece and Selvaraj’s career best film’.
Kottukaali, also released with English name as The Adamant Girl, stars Soori and Anna Ben in titular roles. The movie is about the inter-caste love marriage and superstitions casted upon her by her family. Indian Express’s Rohan Naahar called PS Vinothraj as ‘an unparalleled poet of the people.
