April, usually a blockbuster month for Tollywood, has surprisingly turned into one of its dullest in 2025. The Telugu film industry expected a major boost with two much-awaited releases, Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi and Odela 2. However, both films opened to disappointing numbers, leaving theaters in Telugu states nearly empty over the weekend.
Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi Box Office Collection Fails to Impress
Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi, released on April 18, stars Nandamuri Kalyan Ram and Vijayashanthi in key roles. Pradeep Chilukuri directed the film and promoted it as a high-energy action drama.
Despite the star power and decent promotions, the movie collected only Rs. 10 crore gross in its first three days, with just Rs. 4 crore share, which is well below expectations. Its theatrical rights were valued at over Rs. 20 crore, meaning it failed to recover even 25% of its cost during the crucial opening weekend.
Critics gave mixed reviews. While a few appreciated the action sequences and the strong screen presence of Kalyan Ram and Vijayashanthi, many pointed out predictable storytelling and weak execution. Some reviews mentioned that the final 20 minutes stood out, but overall, the film felt outdated.
Odela 2 Off to a Weak Start
Odela 2, the sequel to Odela Railway Station (2022), released over a 4-day extended weekend but fared even worse. Featuring Tamannaah Bhatia, Hebah Patel, and Vasishta N. Simha, this supernatural thriller earned only Rs. 3-4 crore gross despite a wider release. The film had theatrical rights worth Rs. 10 crore, but collections were negligible, signaling a complete disconnect with audiences.
Directed by Ashok Teja and written by Sampath Nandi, Odela 2 was expected to deliver thrills and drama. Instead, it received heavy backlash for its underdeveloped characters, flat narration, and predictable plot. While Tamannaah delivered a decent performance and Vasishta showed commitment, the film failed to generate any real interest or buzz.
April Turns into a Nightmare for Tollywood Theaters
The back-to-back failure of both films highlights a continuing slump in Tollywood’s box office performance. Theater owners, who were counting on the holiday season and star-led releases, are now facing major losses. The audience turnout in Telugu states remained shockingly low, indicating a growing gap between expectations and content delivery.
If upcoming releases don’t turn the tide soon, this dull phase could affect Tollywood’s summer season entirely. Audiences now see both Odela 2 and Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi as missed opportunities that failed to rise to the occasion despite having all the ingredients for success.
