Tharun Bhascker Opens Up About ‘Deccan Derby’ With Venkatesh

By TeluguFunda / January 27, 2026

Director Tharun Bhascker, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi on January 30, 2026, recently opened up about one of his most anticipated yet delayed projects during the film’s promotional interactions.

Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi marks Tharun’s next outing as an actor and features Eesha Rebba as the female lead. While discussing the film, the director also addressed questions surrounding Deccan Derby, a project he had announced back in 2019 with Victory Venkatesh.

The film, centered around the life of a horse-race gambler, had received approval from producer Suresh Babu at the time but never progressed beyond the planning stage. Clarifying the delay, Tharun Bhascker revealed that he himself decided to put the project on hold. He explained that the screenplay particularly the second half required more refinement, and the film’s large technical scale also played a role in slowing things down.

Tharun added that the story of Deccan Derby still holds relevance and confirmed that he is currently reworking the script. When asked about the film’s timeline, he said that it could go on floors either later this year or at a later point, noting that the project now entirely depends on him.

Venky fans are eagerly awaiting further updates, as the film would mark Tharun Bhascker’s first directorial collaboration with a star hero if it materializes.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh remains busy with multiple projects, including Adarsha Kutumbham under Trivikram’s direction, the sequel to Sankranthiki Vasthunam, and a possible new collaboration with director Anil Ravipudi.
