Thalapathy Vijay Declares CM Candidacy for 2026 Tamil Nadu Elections, Says No to BJP and DMK Alliances

Superstar Thalapathy Vijay has taken a bold leap into full-time politics. On Friday, his party Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) named him as its Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The party finalized this decision during its executive committee meeting held in Panayur, near Chennai.

TVK Picks Vijay as Leader for 2026 Poll Battle

This marks the most significant political move since TVK’s launch in February 2024. Vijay, already a household name in Tamil cinema, now leads the party into its first major electoral battle. In a resolution shared after the meeting, Vijay clearly stated that TVK will not ally with BJP or DMK, criticizing both for promoting selfish political agendas.

Vijay said, “TVK is not like DMK or AIADMK that compromises with BJP. We will not form any alliance. This is our clear and strong decision.” He also slammed BJP’s communal tactics and said such politics will never succeed in Tamil Nadu, a state rooted in social justice and harmony.

Vijay Ends Film Career with Jana Nayagan, Focuses Fully on Politics

Vijay has officially closed the chapter on his film career. His final movie, titled Jana Nayagan, will hit theatres on January 9, 2025. H. Vinoth directed the film, while KVN Productions backed it. This project serves as the final curtain call on his cinematic journey and the launchpad for his political future.

TVK General Secretary N. Anand confirmed that Vijay will begin a statewide tour in September to directly connect with the people. TVK will also host its second state conference in August, setting the stage for intense political groundwork.
