The Telangana government has approved the Gaddar Movie Awards, marking a significant step in recognizing excellence in Tollywood films and film personalities. This initiative comes after a gap of nine years since the last state-sponsored film awards. Unlike the previous Nandi Awards, these new honors are named after Gaddar, the late revolutionary balladeer known for his impact on art and culture. The awards will be presented in April 2025, with the Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC) overseeing the event.
Award Categories and Nomination Process
The TFDC has invited entries for the Gaddar Movie Awards, allowing nominations from Tollywood films released between 2014 and 2023. The categories include:

Children’s Film
Film on Environment, Heritage, or History
Debut Feature Film
Animated Film
Social Impact Film
Documentary Film
Short Films
Additionally, awards will be given for books and analytical essays on Telugu cinema, along with individual honors for artists and technicians. The government has also introduced special awards in memory of Paidi Jayaraj and Kanta Rao, two legendary figures in Telangana cinema.
Nominations will be accepted from March 13, 2025, through the TFDC office at AC Guards, Hyderabad.
Chief Minister’s Vision for the Awards
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has been determined to revive state-sponsored film awards in Telangana. After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the Nandi Awards were discontinued, and the previous government did not introduce an alternative. However, the current administration is committed to making the Gaddar Awards a prestigious annual event. The CM has directed officials to ensure that the awards are conducted on a national level, celebrating the rich heritage of Telugu cinema.
Expectations for the Event
With Dil Raju as TFDC Chairman, the event is expected to attract top Tollywood celebrities. The awards will serve as a platform to recognize exceptional performances and contributions to the industry. Speculation is already growing about potential winners, with discussions surrounding Allu Arjun’s performance in Pushpa-2. However, controversies such as the Sandhya Theater incident and ticket pricing issues may influence the final decisions.
