Former MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna has joined the Jana Sena Party in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. Along with Radha, Praneeth Pramod from Tirupati also joined the party on Wednesday. The induction ceremony took place at the Jana Sena Party’s central office in Amaravati, where Pawan Kalyan welcomed them by presenting the party scarves.
The political development has sparked discussions over the upcoming municipal elections, with Vangaveeti Radhakrishna reportedly emerging as a potential contender for the Vijayawada Mayor post. Similarly, Praneeth Pramod is being discussed as a possible candidate for the Tirupati Mayor position. However, the party’s official candidates are yet to be confirmed.

Vangaveeti Radhakrishna was elected as an MLA in 2004. He joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) a few days before the 2019 Assembly elections and continued with the party thereafter. With the Vijayawada Mayor post falling under the unreserved category, speculation has intensified that Jana Sena could get the position as part of the seat-sharing arrangement within the NDA alliance. If that happens, Radha could be considered for the mayoral race.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha announced the schedule for local body elections on Wednesday. The state government has also issued gazette notifications finalising reservations for Mayor, Municipal Chairperson and Zilla Parishad Chairperson posts.
At the same time, discussions over seat-sharing among the TDP, Jana Sena and BJP for the local body elections are underway. Jana Sena leaders Nadendla Manohar, Lingamaneni Ramesh and Hariprasad held discussions with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the CM’s camp office. TDP Andhra Pradesh president Palla Srinivasa Rao and Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu also attended the meeting.
With local body elections approaching, Vangaveeti Radhakrishna’s entry into Jana Sena has added a new dimension to Vijayawada’s political equations. Whether he will emerge as the alliance’s mayoral candidate remains to be seen.
