The political heat surrounding the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh is intensifying as the ruling alliance parties finalise their seat-sharing arrangements. Following extensive discussions between TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, the alliance has reached a consensus on seat allocation, although the decision has reportedly left some leaders dissatisfied.

Amid this political development, Jana Sena has released its first list of candidates for the municipal elections, with Pawan Kalyan approving the names of candidates who will contest in municipal corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayats. The announcement has attracted attention, particularly because Vangaveeti Radhakrishna has been named as Jana Sena’s candidate for Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Sri Reddy Appala Naidu has been selected for Eluru Municipal Corporation.

The seat-sharing process reportedly took several factors into account, including reservation rules, rotational reservations, local political strength and caste equations. Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan are also making efforts to pacify leaders who are unhappy with the allocation of seats. However, some TDP and Jana Sena leaders have expressed their disappointment through social media posts and public statements.

With the alliance aiming to repeat its electoral success in the upcoming local body polls, leaders and cadres of the coalition parties are expected to work together for the victory of the officially nominated candidates. Open disagreements over seat-sharing could benefit the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), making coordination among alliance partners particularly important.
