Shubman Gill delivered a record-breaking batting masterclass as India completed a historic 400-plus run chase against West Indies.
West Indies produced a massive total of 405 runs after batting first, setting India a daunting target of 406. With more than 400 runs required in the second innings, the chase looked like a huge challenge for the Indian batting lineup.
However, India came out all guns blazing. Rohit Sharma played a brilliant century and provided the perfect platform for the chase. But the spotlight eventually shifted completely towards captain Shubman Gill, who produced a sensational knock under pressure.
Gill was simply unstoppable at the crease. The Indian captain reached his double century in just 117 deliveries, creating history by registering the fastest 200 in ODI cricket. His innings was packed with breathtaking strokes as he dominated the West Indies bowling attack from the outset.
The record-breaking knock also powered India to their first-ever successful ODI chase of more than 400 runs. The match went down as one of the most extraordinary run chases in ODI history, with India achieving the second-highest successful chase in the format.
With the ODI World Cup approaching, the centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provide India with plenty of momentum. Gill’s record-breaking double century, in particular, will be remembered as one of the most remarkable individual performances in India’s ODI history.
