Su From So Box Office Success: Kannada Horror Comedy Nears Rs 40 Crore Without Star Power

Su From So, a Kannada horror comedy, has stunned the Indian box office with its incredible performance. Despite featuring no major stars and marking the directorial debut of J.P. Thuminad, the film has raced toward the Rs 40 crore mark in just 11 days. J.P. Thuminad directed this low-budget entertainer, which hit theaters on July 25, 2025. The film gained momentum through strong word-of-mouth and growing audience support. According to box office tracker Sacnilk, the film earned around Rs 39.4 crore in India across its Kannada and Malayalam versions.

Strong Numbers Across Two Weeks

The film started with a decent Rs 0.78 crore on its first Friday. It then gained speed over the weekend, collecting Rs 2.17 crore on Saturday and Rs 3.5 crore on Sunday. It maintained steady earnings through the weekdays, closing its first week at Rs 3.75 crore on Thursday and finishing week one with a total of Rs 20.15 crore.

In the second weekend, Su From So saw even better results. After the release of the Malayalam-dubbed version on August 1, the film picked up once again. It made Rs 3.8 crore on its second Friday, followed by Rs 5.4 crore on Saturday and a fantastic Rs 6.55 crore on Sunday. On Day 11, which was a Monday, it earned Rs 3.5 crore, still a strong number. Out of that, the Kannada version contributed Rs 3.25 crore, while the Malayalam version added Rs 0.25 crore, showing the film’s growing reach.

What’s the Story of Su From So?

The film takes place in the fictional coastal village of Marlur, where a strange rumor throws the villagers into chaos. Locals believe a ghost named Sulochana has possessed a young man named Ashoka, played by Shaneel Gautham. The film mixes supernatural tension with clever humor, delivering a refreshing and entertaining experience. Audiences have praised its originality and strong local flavor.

Cast, Crew, and Upcoming Telugu Release

The cast includes Sandhya Arakere, Prakash Thuminad, Deepak Rai Panaje, and Mime Ramdas, with a brief but impactful appearance by Raj B. Shetty. Lighter Buddha Films produced the film, while Sumedh K composed the music and Sandeep Thulasidas handled the background score.

Now, Su From So gears up for its Telugu release this Friday, with Mythri Movie Distribution LLP handling its distribution across Telugu states. Given its rising buzz, the film might achieve even bigger numbers. Many now wonder, can Su From So repeat the Kantara-like success in Tollywood?
