When the first part of Stree was released in 2018, it was praised for its successful implementation of the horror-comedy genre. Stree 2 raids on the same path, but on a larger vehicle.
The villains and victims are flipped in this sequel. The lone men were abducted by a luring stree (woman) in the first part. In Stree 2, ‘progressive’ women are abducted by sexist & chauvinist headless gore-ish ‘Sarkata’. The saviours remain the same, Vicky (Rajkumar Rao) and gang, Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana), Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi), Jana (Abhishek Banerji).
The scale of Stree is increased to the current cinematic imaginations of VFX-induced big action set pieces coupled with crossovers to create a new cinematic universe and get a surprise factor from the special cameos. (Spoilers not revealed.)
The 149-minute length film feels like a drag if the likeable characters of Bittu, Jana and Rudra aren’t doing the antics they do. Stree 2 is a fun movie to watch over a weekend when you suspend your disbelief like you do for every horror flick.
Stree 2 is now playing in theatres.
