Shreyas Iyer in ICU After Rib Injury During Australia Match

Team India’s ODI vice-captain and star batsman Shreyas Iyer has been hospitalized in Sydney following a serious rib cage injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia on Saturday. The injury reportedly led to internal bleeding, prompting doctors to place him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) immediately.

According to medical sources, Iyer’s vital parameters dropped alarmingly soon after the incident, and he was rushed to the hospital as the situation appeared potentially life-threatening. Despite continuous monitoring, his condition showed no significant improvement over the next two days.

Initial assessments suggested a possible splenic rupture, which was later confirmed by medical scans. The BCCI issued an official statement clarifying the situation:

“Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress.”

The injury occurred when Iyer took a spectacular running catch at backward point to dismiss Alex Carey. While completing the catch, he appeared to have strained his left rib cage. He returned to the dressing room but soon complained of severe pain and discomfort, leading to his immediate hospitalization.
