Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has taken on a new role, that of a producer, with her first film Shubham under her banner Tralala Moving Pictures. She will release Shubham worldwide on May 9. Director Praveen Kandregula helms the film, marking a new chapter in Samantha’s 15-year journey in the film industry. Known for her acting and screen presence, Samantha now channels her time and energy into supporting content-driven cinema and emerging talent.
“Just like how Gautham Menon sir took a risk and cast me for Ye Maya Chesave, I now feel responsible for giving newcomers a chance,” Samantha said during a recent media interaction. This idea now drives her decision to step into production.
From Actress to Producer: A New Learning Curve
Samantha shared that her journey into production has opened her eyes. She admitted that, as an actor, she once treated reshoots casually and didn’t realize how much they cost. But now, as a producer, she sees the value in every minute and rupee on set. A delayed shot raises expenses, affects schedules, and increases financial stress, challenges she hadn’t faced before. “Now I understand what producers go through. Every single detail matters,” she said.
The Birth of Tralala Moving Pictures
Samantha chose the name Tralala Moving Pictures from a children’s rhyme, Tralala – Brown Girl in the Rain, picking it with a smile. She quietly started working on Shubham during her break from acting. After doctors diagnosed her with Myositis, she took time off and used it to explore her passion for storytelling from behind the scenes. “Even if I couldn’t act, I knew I could still tell stories,” she said.
Shubham: A Fresh Tale with Fresh Faces
Shubham is a social satire that explores the world of TV serials. Samantha chose the title from the word “Shubham”, which often appears at the end of Indian soap operas. She revealed that newcomers Shreya, Shravani, and Shalini star in the film and impressed her with their dedication and talent. She believes that giving them a platform is the best way she can give back to the industry — just like how Gautham Menon gave her a chance as a newcomer.
A Simple Story Told Without Extravagance
Samantha made Shubham on a tight budget. She and her team spent every rupee only where the story needed it. They avoided waste and unnecessary expenses. “People will see how efficiently we made the film,” she said. She also did a cameo role in the film because she didn’t want to ask others for favors for her first production.
What’s Next for Samantha?
Samantha will begin shooting for her next film Maa Inti Bangaram in June. She also hinted that she may collaborate with director Atlee in the future.
Samantha ended by saying she feels proud of what her team achieved with Shubham. She believes the film will resonate with audiences, especially women who enjoy TV dramas. “I may not be the smartest businesswoman, but I follow my heart,” she said. And with Shubham, her instincts seem to be right on track.
